Les Henson – Tabor College Victoria Dr. Les Henson is Senior Lecturer in Intercultural
and Mission Studies at Tabor College Victoria. He worked for 9 years as a Mechanical Engineer in
the coal industry in the North of England and Scotland before attending
the Bible Training Institute in Glasgow from 1073-76. Immediately after
Bible College he married his Dutch wife, Wapke. Together the spent the
19 years in a church planting ministry in West Papua (formally Irian
Jaya), Indonesia with World Team. They have two sons, Joel and Peter. During their time in West Papua they worked among
the Momina people and experience a people movement in which the majority
of the tribal group turned to Christ and for several years he was the
field leader. In July 1992 he completed a Master of Arts in Missiology
at Fuller Theological Seminary. He then worked with World Team in the
area of personnel and as a visiting lecturer in Missiology at various
Bible and Theological Colleges around Australia from 1996 to 1997. In January 1998 he started teaching at Tabor College Victoria in the area of Intercultural and Mission Studies and recently complete a PhD at Monash University in the area of Melanesian contextual theology. He hopes to spend the next ten years grappling with the issues of the gospel and culture in the Western context. His special interests and expertise are in the areas of contextual theologising and church planting. He spends a lot of time mentoring emerging leaders.
